A Detailed Guide to Setup SEOPress SEO Plugin Properly

1. Installation Wizard

After the plugin installation and activation, a new option named “SEO” will be added to your WordPress dashboard menu. Click on it, then the Dashboard of SEOPress plugin opens. On the top of the dashboard. you will see a banner with a welcome message and a “Get started” button. Click on Get started button to launch the installation wizard of the SEOPress SEO plugin.

Step 1 – Welcome/Import SEO Settings

On the welcome tab, SEOPress just asks you to start the setup wizard to configure the SEO settings of your website. Click on the “Next step” button to move to the next tab.

On the next tab, you can import metadata from your previous SEO plugin. Select the plugin you were using previously from the drop-down menu and click on the “Migrate now” button.

Now, wait till SEOPress imports metadata from your old SEO plugin. Once the migration process is completed, you will see a “Migration completed” message. After that, you can click on the “Next step” button to proceed.

Step 2 – Your Site and Social Accounts

In the next step of the installation wizard, you’ll be asked to provide information about you and your website to build knowledge graphs and title tags for Google. At the first option, you have to fill the separator, keep it default. On the next option fill up the title of your website homepage.

Next, you will be asked to choose whether your website belongs to a person or an organization. So, select it according to your website type. You can also disable this by selecting the “None” option.

On the next two fields, fill up the person or organization name and upload the personal photo of the person or the logo of the organization. After that, click on the “Save & Continue” button to move to the Your social account tab.

On the Your social media accounts tab, there are blank fields where you can fill in the links of your social media profiles and pages. If you don’t use social media or don’t want to share the profiles with search engines, then you can leave them empty and click on the “Save & Continue” button to move to the next step.

Step 3 – Indexing

In this step, you can disable the indexing of non-important pages or post types in search engines. At the post types tab, keep both posts and page options unticked. If you enable them, search engines will not index the all posts and pages of your website. So, keep everything default and click on the “Save and Continue” button to move to the next tab.

The next tab is for Archives indexing, here you can disable the indexing of post types archives. If your website has post-type archives, then just tick those whom you don’t want to get indexed in Google. If not, then you can click on the “Save and Continue” button to continue to the next tab.

On the taxonomies tab, you get two options categories and tags. We recommend keeping both options ticked to no-index them. For some websites, category pages are important, if you want to index category pages, then just keep the box in front of the category option unticked. But tags page indexing is not recommended in any condition. After that, click on the “Save & Continue” button to move ahead.

Step 4 – Advanced Options

On this page, there are some advanced options available that you have to configure for better search engine ranking. Tick the first option to noindex author archives to avoid duplicate content.

The second option allows you to redirect attachment pages to their file URL. Keep this unchecked, because it’s better to redirect attachment pages to their parent posts. By default, SEOPress does this for you.

The third option is for removing “/category/” from your website category URLs. If you want to remove it, then tick it. But, It is recommended to keep this option disabled to avoid conflict between post URLs and Category URLs.

After setting up all options, click on the “Save and Continue” button for the next tab of advanced options.

On the next tab, you can enable the Universal SEO metabox. If you want to edit your SEO metadata directly from your page or theme builder, then tick this option. And if you want to use old SEO metabox like before, then keep it unchecked, the choice is yours. We recommend you enable the Universal SEO metabox. So, tick the box and click on “Save and Continue” for the next step.

Step 5 – Extend SEOPress/Insights

On this page, there are two tabs – PRO and Insights. In the first tab, you’ll be asked to buy SEOPress Pro to unlock some premium features. If you need premium SEO features, then you can purchase the PRO version of SEOPress by clicking on the “Get SEOPress Pro” button. However, if you don’t need it, just click on the “Skip this step” button.

Now the second tab opens, here you’ll be asked to buy SEOPress Insights. SEOPress Insights is a premium tool that allows you to track ranking and monitor the backlinks of your website. If you need it, then click the “Get SEOPress Insights” button to purchase it. If not required, then click on the “Skip this step” button to move forward.

Step 6 – Ready

That’s it, this is the final page of the SEOPress installation wizard. You have successfully completed the setup wizard of the SEOPress WordPress plugin. Now, click on the “Visit Dashboard” button to get back to your site’s WordPress Dashboard.
